Harry Charles riding Murkas SL Safo IV Wins Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round at The Hand Equestrian Centre

The fifth of the Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Rounds took place this weekend (Saturday 9th June 2012) at The Hand Equestrian Centre in North Somerset, Avon.

The Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Second Round was a key part of the Pony Premier Show that was hosted by The Hand Equestrian Centre and class proved popular, attracting a starting field of over 50 rider and pony combinations.

Up for grabs at this second round were two direct qualifying tickets for the Blue Chip Feed Balancer Pony Newcomers Championship Final at the Horse of the Year Show (HOYS) and the total of 51 rider and pony starting combinations were all vying for one of these tickets.

From the starters, 12 combinations produced two clear rounds to make it through into the final jump off and seven combinations then went on to produce the all important treble clear.

The overall winner of this second round was 12-year-old Harry Charles from Alton, Hampshire and he won the class aboard his father's (Peter Charles) Murkas SL Safo IV. Harry rode the fastest clear of the day over the seven fence jump off course to complete it in a time of 34.80 seconds, cementing the combination's place in the Championship Final.

The second HOYS direct qualifying place went to 16-year-old Lily Bradstock from Wantage, Oxfordshire, who rode Louise Hamilton's pony, Lydican Lad, clear over the course in a time of 35.62 seconds.

Just missing out on the HOYS qualifications were the combinations in third to seventh, who all produced impressive treble clears. The combinations did however take home their chance to compete at the Victory Shavings British Showjumping Scope Festival.
